Here’s how the teeth whitening process works with whitening kits:
•Dr. O’Leary or Dr. Peppler can determine if you’re a good candidate for tooth whitening (and almost everyone is) and takes an impression of your teeth.
•In a return dental visit, you receive your whitening trays, whitening gel, and instructions. We check to see that the trays fit snugly in your mouth. Unlike the trays in store-bought kits, the whitening trays made by our dental office will fit tightly, which means that the whitening solution won’t leak out and burn your gum tissues or drain into your stomach.
•Using your custom-made whitening trays, you can whiten your teeth once a day, for up to 60 minutes. The teeth whitening trays are comfortable to wear, so you can talk on the phone, watch TV, or enjoy other sedentary activities. Note, though, that you can’t eat or drink while you’re wearing the teeth whitening trays.
•Most patients see dramatic results after just three whitening applications, and maximum results usually occur after 5-10 times.
•The teeth whitening results aren’t permanent (in part, because every day, you restain your teeth with food and drink), but most people only need to apply touch-up whitening once or twice a year to maintain a bright smile.
