Gels & Toothpastes
You should use caution when choosing a whitening gel or whitening toothpaste, and you should always consult with a dentist before attempting to whiten your teeth.
Store-bought whitening gels and toothpastes can damage your teeth. If you’re tempted to use one of those “super-whitening” toothpastes that you’ve seen advertised, don’t! They can have the same effect as if you took an abrasive to a countertop. The whitening toothpaste might remove the stain, but it can also wear down your tooth enamel. As your enamel gets thinner, your dentin shows through. Because dentin is darker than enamel, your teeth will look as if they’re stained, and this condition will be permanent and irreversible.
