Causes Of Teeth Staining

While some color change in teeth comes naturally with aging, the primary causes of tooth staining are:
•smoking
•tobacco
•coffee
•teas
•colas
•wine
•trauma to teeth
•prescription drugs
•excessive fluoride /fluoridation
•nerve degeneration
•old fillings
•teeth grinding (bruxism)
•age (by the time you turn 45, without whitening, your teeth will have darkened to the color of a manila envelope)
•heredity (some people have teeth that are naturally discolored, a condition that worsens over time)
•translucency and thinness of teeth (thicker teeth appear lighter in color and are more responsive to bleaching)

When they stick to plaque, dark foods and drinks can stain your teeth. Other teeth-staining foods include: dark fruits, beets, red meet, soy sauce, and balsamic vinegar.

For a “white teeth” diet, choose coarse, crunchy fruits and vegetables (such as apples and carrots) because they act like cleansers, cleaning debris from your teeth.

With teeth whitening kits, you can reorder gel from your dentist and whiten your teeth several times a year to maintain a bright, white smile!
